June chip month
We chip and register for free in June

Did you know that very few cats that get lost and end up at the shelter are returned to their owners? Chipping and registering helps. Throughout June, you can get your cat chipped and registered for free.
Every year, many cats go missing in Amsterdam. They may run away, get lost or have an accident. This can also happen to an indoor cat. A cat that is microchipped is reunited with its owner. Great for both.
Painless and squeaky clean
A chip is about the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted under the skin, between the shoulder blades. It only takes a few seconds and your cat does not feel anything. A reader can be used to read the chip's registration number. Without a reader, the chip does nothing: it has no battery, GPS or power source.
Bringing back a cat
Each chip has its own number that refers to the owner's details. The animal ambulance, the shelter and the vet can read the chip. This way, your cat can be returned.
Registration is very important
Proper registration is incredibly important. In an accident all the way, because a vet can only help a pet if the owner agrees. Without an owner, the animal gets only minimal care.
Are your details still correct?
This is also a good time to take a moment to check your records. Keeping your details up to date prevents a lot of stress for you and your animal. Because sometimes animals are chipped, but not (anymore) at the right address or phone number. Then things still go wrong. On chipnumber.co.uk you can check whether your data are still correct. If you have lost the number, have the chip read at the vet or animal organisations with a reader. They will be happy to help you. Or contact the supplier for the chip number or to change data.
Make an appointment
Chipping and registration of animals from Amsterdam and Weesp is free of charge throughout June at the organisations below. Weesp is not chipped, but Weesp residents can visit these locations in Amsterdam. You can also have chipping done at the vet. Please check there whether you have to pay for it. And whether you have to register your cat's chip yourself.
